Rollepaal Launches World's First Multi-Layer Pipe Scanner

Rollepaal, global leader in pipe extrusion technology, announced the launch of a revolutionary innovation for multi-layer pipe producers: the Offline Multi-Layer Scanner. This system is the first and only offline solution that can accurately measure the thickness of individual pipe layers, as well as total wall thickness, diameter, ovality, and foam structure in a single scan activity.

For the first time, manufacturers can gain precise insight into each layer of a multi-layer pipe, without the need for destructive testing or time-consuming manual measurement. The new scanner delivers results 90% faster than traditional methods, enabling quicker corrections and a significant reduction in production scrap. It is also the first and only system that works calibration-free with PVC, PE, and PP, as well as pipes with mixed material layers.

“Every week, producers lose pallets of production due to defects in layer distributions that they cannot see or measure.” says Joe Venegas, R&D Manager at Rollepaal. “This scanner changes that. You see the defects immediately and you fix them immediately.”

The system includes a high-resolution flatbed scanner connected to dedicated software running on an industrial PC. The scanner captures a full cross-section image of the pipe. The software then analyzes each layer's thickness, ovality, total wall thickness, and foam cell distribution and delivers an automated PDF and CSV report within a minute. This makes the scanner an ideal fit for production environments seeking both repeatable quality control results and faster process control, enabling pipe producers to standardize their quality documentation.

Customers using the system during pilot trials have reported substantial improvements, including reductions in production scrap by up to 20% and full return on investment within four months. The more profound insight into individual layers also enables producers to optimize material usage, reducing the unnecessary safety margins typically added to compensate for unknown variation. This means not only fewer defects, but also leaner, more profitable production.

While other systems rely on destructive or slow quality control methods, Rollepaal’s new scanner is the first to provide full multi-parameter analysis of multi-layer pipes, and with real production data to prove its value. It redefines how quality control is done in multi-layer pipe manufacturing.

The Offline Multi-Layer Scanner is now available for demonstration and order worldwide. Rollepaal will also have a live demonstration at their booth 16A43 during K2025. For more information or to book a demo, visit our Multi-Layer Pipe Scanner product page.
